Hop spiders basically a large stainless steel mesh basket which fits inside the boil kettle. Hops are then placed inside it and boiled in the normal way. The rationale behind these is that the hop spider contains the hops, reducing the amount of trub and hop debris left in the boil kettle. The less debris in the boil kettle the clearer the finished beer.
With the trends towards high IBU beers such as IPAs, double IPAs and Imperial Stouts the use of hop spiders are becoming more common.
It's one of those things what you tried you realise how you brilliant they are and use all the time. It really makes a difference to the final clarity of the beer; we rarely use finings these days.
Our spiders are constructed from 316 300 µ stainless steel mesh with stainless steel arms that hook over the side of the brew pot. they measure 14" by 6" in diameter. using them is simple; fill with the required amount of hops then hook over the side of the kettle. when your boil is finished simply remove the hop spider, with the hops in it. Empty and wash with hot soapy water. Stubborn bits brush out easily when dry.
Please note: We are confident enough in the quality of our hop spiders to offer a lifetime guarantee; if it breaks during normal usage we will replace it for free, just send us a photo. Our stock is already in the UK and will be sent in a double thickness cardboard box with additional padding inside. However we are unable to offer a repair service to customers who purchased from other suppliers - we are getting lots of requests to fix those sent from China via ChinaPost packed in a mail bag( yes really), with amusingly flat results.
Our hop spiders are suitable for even the largest of our brewing vessels. 14" deep and 6" in diameter they hold a considerable amount of hops.
Constructed from 316 stainless, and having a very fine 300 micron mesh they are perfect for i the amount of hop debris in the kettle, which gives you a clearer wort and less cleaning.
Please note; if you use a smaller capacity brewing system it's worth checking if you have a depth of 14" before ordering
